Farmers and Friends Who Supply Moveable Feast

Coastal Hill Farms

The mission of Coastal Hill Farm & Egg Co-op is to provide a fair price to farming families for their eggs and produce so that they can continue doing what they’re best at: farming. Pastured, organic chickens are not cheap nor easy to raise well. But due to small flock sizes all of the birds whose eggs we represent are afforded the best animal husbandry and care that can only be expected from family farms.

Marin Roots Farm

Jesse became interested in farming in college, where he took classes in agriculture and eventually managed a student farm. After volunteering and working on several farms, he decided to start his own on leased land in 2003. He met Moira, who was working at County Line Harvest, and she joined him at Marin Roots in 2014. “Farming is at the root of the sustainability movement,” says Jesse. “Our farm provides its workers with a liveable wage. We are also working to educate the public about the importance of good food. It’s not something to be taken for granted.” To enrich the farm’s soil, they use green manure and mulch and incorporate aged manure, compost, and crop residue. To control pests, they rotate crops, create habitat for beneficial insects, use physical barriers, and grow pest-resistant varieties.

K&J Orchards

They started in 1980 when a registered nurse and pomology professor fell in love with the admiration for fruit trees. Kalayada and James created K & J Orchards to bring premium quality fruits and nuts into their community. After many years of production planning, succession planning, and varietal selections the orchards grew into two Northern Californian towns; Winters and Yuba City. To this day, the farming practices have been passed on to their next generation for continued growth and nurture.

Four Star Seafood

We’ve been providing seafood and specialty products to some of the best restaurants in San Francisco since 2015. We started our careers in the kitchen, as chefs. After traveling to coastal towns around the world, we became frustrated to return home to seafood that was less sweet and less pristine, despite our location right on the Pacific Coast. We wanted to do things a little differently and started Four Star Seafood. We wouldn’t say we’re old fashioned, but we’ve found that having a direct connection to the person pulling product from the water is well worth the effort. It helps us ensure quality, speed up delivery times, and deliver value to our clients and their discerning guests. It’s not a new idea - to actually know the person you are buying from - but it’s one that has become more and more difficult as the industry has evolved.

Coyote Family Farm

We founded Coyote Family Farm in 2014 when Alex and Sonya moved to Sonoma County from Berkeley. A whirlwind ensued: one of raising children, fixing up old farm structures, learning how to grow vegetables, tend land at scale, and manage farm interns and employees while raising babies, and then learning how to balance all those things and find some time and space to just enjoy life. All along we've been motivated by the enjoyment of fresh food pulled from the earth, the love of working with other people at this pursuit, the satisfaction of feeding our community, and the joy of working within an ever-changing landscape and with our ecosystem to practice this craft.

Live Oak Farm

Just 5 minutes from downtown Petaluma, as you arrive at Live Oak Farm, you are greeted by our namesake – a century old, expansive Coast Live Oak – a standing testament to the rich history of the property. In 2014, Randy Goldstein purchased the 30-acre property. Randy was interested in food, health, and as a green energy entrepreneur for 35 years, the impact farming had on the environment. He was inspired by the idea that small scale solar and wind projects could ultimately provide enough energy for society. And he wondered, “Could small farms feed the world’s growing population in a more environmentally friendly manner?”Combining his interests in green energy and growing healthy food, along with his desire to build an energy efficient house, and live in community, Randy turned toward the country and started work on the agrihood in 2014.
